Solo with Mid Georgia SCCA Sept 21, 2008

What a GREAT event and GREAT folks with the Mid-Georgia SCCA. I did not time that well, but I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. This was my first run with my new RX-8 R3, my second time AutoX'ing, and third time performance driving.

CHRISTIAN WITNESS
I did not have much in the way of Christian graphics on my car (yet) except for the Team Racers for Christ. Here is the closeup.

So the new graphics are being worked out by my Christian brother Barry at http://4d-sport.com. I did find someone else with a heart for witness and that was Bryan Camera in his X1/9 (more about him later).

Jordan was sporting his witness wear ... that's what it is all about! Nancy, Lauren, and Brandon had fun too!

LESSONS LEARNED
The track was a bit confusing and not marked with chalk like in the Marina AutoX event I attended last year. I should have taken the advise of the video, Autocross - Weekend One, which suggested that I take notes of the track during the walk through. I had several Did Not Finish (DNF) scores because I kept missing one series of cones.

The pavement was a rough asphalt with some loose gravel and debris. So I found that I was taking the tight corners too fast skidding too much and losing lots of time. After the event, I realized everything I did wrong ... but thought it was funny that I didn't think of any of them while driving.

Brian Camera and I stood at the #2 post with the walkie talky, flag, and fire extiguisher. He suggested that I added a good deal more air in my tires to help with the skidding problems. I spoke with Barry about this and he suggested running my front tires at 42 PSI, and my rear tires at around 37 PSI. I am going to try this next time at the November 16th event at Henderson Stadium in Macon, GA.
